چکیده

Histological and histochemical studies were carried out on the costal cartilage of Sprague Dawley rats at 10. 18. 30, and 54 weeks of age. Histological changes were characterized by vacuolization. atrophy, enlargement or disappearance of chondrocytes, and loss of homogeneity of the matrix. These changes were seen from 10 weeks of age, and progressed with increasing age. On the other hand, proliferation of chondrocytes from the perichondrium was seen from 30 weeks of age. Acidic mucopolysaccharides decreased with increasing age, and increased in the area of chondrocyte proliferation described above. (J Toxicol Pathol 2: 261•`266, 1989)

Background: There is yet a dearth of literature on the antifertility effect of Momordica charantia on the male reproductive system. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of graded oral doses of methanolic seed extract of Momordica charantia on the histology of prostate gland and seminiferous tubules of rats. Methods: Forty male Sprague-Dawley rats, weighing 176±7 g were assi...

The Histological, Histomorphometrical and Histochemical Changes of Testicular Tissue in the Metformin Treated and Untreated Streptozotocin-Induced Adult Diabetic Rats

In this investigation, diabetes was induced in adult male Sprague-Dawley rats by single intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ) at 45 mg kg-1 of body weight. A group comprised of 8 diabetic rats was treated with metformin at 100 mg kg-1 of body weight for reducing the elevated blood glucose level. The results revealed that, in the untreated diabetic rats, the body and testicular weigh...

HISTOCHEMICAL STUDIES OF BONE IN NORMAL AND PATHOLOGICAL CONDITIONS With Special Reference to Alkaline Phosphatase, Glycogen and Mucopolysaccharides

The histological investigation of phosphatase localisation (Gomori 1939, Takamatsu 1939), and especially the methods which allow decalcification of hard tissues without causing any appreciable loss of the enzyme (Lorch 1947, Greep, Fischer and Morse 1948, Zorzolli 1948), mark important progress in the study of ossification. The work carried out in normal growing bone, in fractures and in a few ...
